摘要

A suite of federal programs designed to boost the energy efficiency of home appliances, lights, and commercial equipment such as industrial motors will deliver net benefits of $22.4 billion Australian ($14.5 billion) in the 16-year period between 2009 and 2024, according to a study released Feb. 26 by the Australian government. The assessment of the Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) package of programs said 80 percent of the energy savings will be attributable to the tightening of minimum energy performance standards. The remaining 20 percent will come from energy labeling schemes, some of which are coupled with the performance standards. Improvements in the efficiency of household water heating will deliver one-third of the E3 energy savings in the residential sector, mostly through a phaseout of electric hot water heaters. Another 29 percent of energy savings will come from more efficient refrigerators and freezers. More efficient lighting products will account for nearly 30 percent of the projected electricity savings in the nonresidential sector.
