Qatar Adopts Green Building Rating System; Hopes to Expand Certification Across Region

Qatar is promoting a green building code that it hopes will be applied widely in the Persian Gulf state and adopted across the Middle East as part of an effort to reverse the depletion of natural resources and the overconsumption of energy.rnThe Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS) already is being applied to developments under the auspices of Qatar's Public Works Authority, but is not yet mandatory. This means that construction industry professionals must first obtain QSAS certification before they submit plans for a government-owned project.
