摘要

Some $3.6 trillion in investments is needed to implement carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology by midcentury on a scale adequate to contribute to fending off catastrophic climate change, the International Energy Agency said July 2. That is a lot of money, but the price tag for a plan to slash atmosphere-warming carbon dioxide emissions to avoid the droughts, rising seas, and increased frequency of deadly storms that could come with major climate change will be 40 percent higher if it does not include CCS, Didier Houssin, IEA's director of sustainable energy policy and technology, told reporters via a webcast.
