Norway Adopts EU Measure on Biocide Products, Toy Safety Into National Law

Two new regulations will bring Norway into line with EU rules on biocides and toy safety, according to the country's Climate and Pollution Agency (KLIF). A new Toy Safety Regulation will transpose the EU Toy Safety Directive (2009/48/EC), while a new Biocide Regulation will implement the European Union's Biocide Products Regulation (528/2012) into national law. While Norway is not an EU member, it adopts most EU laws through its membership in the European Economic Area agreement. The Toy Safety Regulation implements most aspects of the EU directive, KLIF said in a March 6 statement. A KLIF senior adviser, Trine Lise Torgesen, told BNA March 7 the exception was certain procedural rules concerning EU member states, which will be implemented in stages beginning July 20.
