New ePIC Reporting Tool Introduced For Hazardous Chemical Export Notifications

Companies that trade in hazardous chemicals covered by the European Union's Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Regulation ((EU) No 649/2012) must now file mandatory import and export notifications through a new online tool, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) said. In a statement Sept. 2, ECHA said the new tool, known as ePIC, "streamlines the notification process and the management of follow-up actions" for compa- nies and national and designated national authorities from the EU and the European Commission. The PIC regulation lists about 165 hazardous chemicals and prohibits their export from the EU unless prior notification is sent to EU national authorities and to ECHA or until prior consent has been obtained from the importing country. The regulation implements in the EU the Rotterdam Convention on the PIC Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade.
