Canada Concludes 49 Chemical Substances Not Toxic, Will Further Monitor 28 of Them

A draft study found that 49 chemical substances -33 azo direct dyes and 16 aromatic amines - do not meet toxicity criteria in Canada, but 28 of the substances warrant further monitoring to see if they could pose a human health risk, the government announced. Screening assessments of the two groups of chemicals found that exposure levels of the substances to the environment or human health are low, and they do not meet toxicity criteria in Section 64 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, Environment Canada and Health Canada said in notices published in the July 26 issue of the Canada Gazette, Part Ⅰ.
