摘要

A major project to protect the northern Italian city of Venice from flooding has run into new problems related to corruption and environmental worries. The 5 billion euro ($7 billion) Moses project, hailed as Italy's largest post-World War Ⅱ engineering initiative, is to feature a series of 78 movable barriers in three key inlets to protect the famed canal city during rough seas or heavy rains that raise water levels. It also was proposed in response to rising tides blamed in part on climate change. The project was originally scheduled to be completed two years ago, but the deadline was pushed back to this year, and then again to 2016.
