European Union Document Outlines Bloc's Goals for 'Paris Protocol' Climate Agreement

The European Union Feb. 25 released a document outlining its goals for this year's global climate deal and reiterating commitments the 28-nation bloc is prepared to make to help fight climate change. In parts of the Energy Union Package that deal with climate change, the EU called for "ambitious reduction of emissions" consistent with findings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the climate science arm of the United Nations. And it said China and the U.S., the world's largest emitters of greenhouse gas, should join the EU in showing "political leadership" by being among the first movers in the process.
