Shenzhen, Other Chinese Cities, Aim to Lead National Effort to Cut Emissions After 2030

With about 90 percent of China's greenhouse gas emissions emanating from its cities, government officials and researchers are pushing for municipalities to lead the country toward its goal of declining emissions in less than 15 years. Several cities, such as South China's Shenzhen, have pledged to hit their peak year much earlier than 2030, which the country has set as the absolute latest it will hit is annual emissions peak-after which emissions will begin to fall.
