Mexico Takes Steps Toward More Competitive Natural Gas Market

Mexico plans to free up price controls over natural gas and allow access to its state-owned pipelines, another step towards a competitive natural gas market, after several decades of state control. The Energy Ministry announced plans last week to liberalize natural gas prices in northern Mexico beginning in January 2017-and in 2018 for the rest of the country-in a much-needed step to encourage Texas suppliers to venture south in search of customers.
