U.K. Offshore Wind Farms Seen Reaching Cost-Cutting Goal by 2020

The U.K.'s offshore wind industry is on course to cut the cost of power production to 100 pounds ($143) a megawatt-hour by the end of the decade, allowing operators to qualify for new state support, a report shows. Two new wind farms, due to complete financing this year, will deliver electricity for less than 121 pounds a megawatt-hour, the government-funded Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult research center said March 14. The so-called levelized estimate covers the cost of building and operating a wind park and includes capital and maintenance expenses.
