Vietnam Hopes Giving Officials Timber Lessons Will Slash Illicit Logging

To help timber inspectors determine if felled trees crossing their borders were chopped down lawfully, Vietnam has launched a project to help officials identify different wood types. Through the so-called Responsible Asia Forestry & Trade (RAFT) Partnership, Vietnam will train inspectors to spot contraband timber, publish a guidebook for officials and toughen laws on the wood trade.
