The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published a list of 15 substances it regards as being of sufficiently high concern to potentially require 'authorisation' for use under the European Union's REACH chemical-control system. This regulatory approval entails detailed assessments over and above those needed to 'register' a chemical - the standard approach. ECHA now wants comments before formally asking the European Commission to sanction authorisation. Other authorisation candidates will be revealed by ECHA later.
