The Fifth annual RITE Group conference took place recently at the Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, London, UK. The RITE Group was formed in 2007 after a landmark sustainable-textiles conference organised by Dr Richard Blackburn and Dr Anna Harvey, of the University of Leeds. Reducing the impact of textiles on the environment (RITE) is now a major issue throughout the textile supply chain and the RITE Group annual conference provides an important forum where inter-disciplinary discussions on sustainability/green issues can take place. The vision of the RITE Group is to provide advice and fact-based information to reduce/minimise the negative environmental effects of the production, use and disposal of textiles. In addition it promotes best practice for sub-sections of the textile industry and drives forward the sustainable and ethical production of textiles and apparel throughout the global supply chain.
