Antimicrobial finishes have become more important over the last decade because of changing consumer lifestyles and attitudes to health and hygiene. The presence and growth of microorganisms such as bacteria, algae, fungi and micro-fungi (eg. moulds, mildew and yeasts) can result in malodours or generate stains and fibre degradation (rotting) as well as spread infections.
