Textile manufacturers and importers will now be assessing the likely impact of the new European Union (EU) Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) 528/2012 that will repeal and replace the current EU Biocidal Products Directive EU 98/8 and will be enforced from 1 September 2013. Under the BPR, antimicrobial-treated textiles manufactured within the EU or imported from outside the EU will only be allowed if the active substances used to impart antimicrobial properties have been approved in accordance with this new EU Regulation.
