The effectiveness of the UK's flame-retardancy regulations for bedding and upholstered furniture has come into question after a BBC investigation revealed that several of the country's leading retailers were selling products that would fail flammability tests. The programme, part of the 'Fake Britain' series, identified retailers including Harveys, SCS, Argos, Homebase, Amazon and Tesco Direct, which it said were selling sofas or mattresses that failed to meet FR standards in tests carries out by FIRA International, in conjunction with Leicestershire Trading Standards. The programme concluded that such furniture was therefore illegal.
