Dye-house water quality is the most important parameterto be confirmed before dyeing; precisely the presence of metal content, ie hardness. This study focused on the impact of water hardness (ie calcium, magnesium and iron) in dyeing process of cotton with reactive dyes. From evaluation of dyed fabric, we identify the range of metal content where the quality starts to fluctuate, as indicated by distinctive visible and spectral change of shade and fixation rate of the dye molecules. The result of the work will help in the further projection of water quality degradation in the coming years and its effect on dyeing behaviour, as well as assessing the sustainability of the present dyeing process to cope with the ever-degrading quality of water. The purpose of this project was to determine the effect of water hardness on dyeing with the reactive dyes applied by the exhaust method. The project work was done on water of different hardness, such as 500ppm, 200ppm, 400ppm, 500ppm, and 100ppm.The water hardness increase led to a decrease in the depth of shade.
