Safety barrier is such a constan feature of most roadscapes that it is taken very much for granted. There are essentially three types of barrier; steel beam, wire rope and concrete, and although the pattern of use varies according to local custom and conditions, the general consensus seems to be that steel beam barrier takes the major share. The major advantage that the manufacturers of this system claim for it is that it will absorb the kinetic energy from a collision and guide the vehicle along the fence, rather than deflecting it into the traffic flow.
