A masterpiece of heavy lifting

A heavy-lifting project in Vienna, Austria, has recently been completed by Austrian slipform and heavy lifting company Gleitbau. The Prater bridge in Vienna was erected during 1967-70. The section which crosses the Danube carries two three-lane carriageways on steel and concrete supports. The damming of the Danube in the course of constructing the Freude- nau power station meant that the Prater bridge had to be raised by up to 1.80m to provide an overhead clearance of 8m for shipping.
