Bay tunnel

Guangdong No. 2 Hydropower Engineering has taken delivery of a new 6.3 m diameter Robbins Slurry tunnel boring machine (TBM) and is expecting to launch it later this month on the construction of the 2.7 km Zhanjiang Bay sea crossing tunnel. Launched from a 28 m deep shaft, the TBM will work in up to 60 m of overburden to excavate the fresh water tunnel. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Mechatronics Systems (MHI-MS) has provided key components and engineering for both the TBM and back-up, while Robbins, in addition to component supply and assembly, will provide local support throughout the project.
