Oft cartel fines reduced

Penalties totalling £ 129 million (US$ 209 million) imposed by the UK Office of Fair Trading (OFT) against 112 construction companies have so far been reduced to £ 80.3 million (US$ 130.4 million) on appeal. The UK Competition Appeal Tribunal has reduced what it called "Excessive" fines levied against 12 of the construction companies accused of cartel activity. The tribunal still has to rule on appeals from 13 other contractors.
