摘要

An Oxford University professor recently said megaprojects make up an incredible 8% of total GDP. Yet definitions of what constitutes a megaproject vary. In construction terms, values are generally discussed in billions of dollars, as opposed to millions. Who, after all, could build a self-respecting international airport and expect to have change from a billion dollars? But its not all about the money; megaprojects are characterised by their complexity, especially in terms of the deployment of people and equipment. They are also characterised (or at least have been historically) by an extremely poor record of delivery.
