Adaptation, not revolution for breakers

Competition in the breaker sector remains as fierce as ever. Yet, unlike in some other notable parts of the construction industry, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are seeking to simplify their equipment, ensuring that there are as few moving parts as possible. This is, in no small part, to reduce the chances of breakdown and sustain their lifespan. Part of the technological challenge is adjusting the impact according to different requirements, as every material requires a different impact power. For the uninitiated, breakers - or hammers - use auxiliary hydraulics so that excavators can break down hard materials. Customer needs vary significantly from project to project and particularly from region to region. Guillaume Wiliquet, product manager, attachments at Komatsu, said, "Our breakers need to perform equally well in Qatar at +50℃ as in Canada at -30℃ for example. With the extreme weather conditions we are facing more and more often around the world, the request for a simple, reliable and well-performing breaker has been increasing."
