摘要

There are few companies in the broadcasting market that have grown naturally and have strategically planned their evolution encompassing good workflow principles and unified backroom and front line systems. Most companies grow a chaotic portfolio of good solutions to pressing needs that rarely harmonise to reduce cost and improve efficiency. This is particularly so in the early days of television, it was not until the explosion in multi channel digital television that the exploitation of archive resources became an increasingly significant earnings line. There had previously been a healthy market in tape based transmission sales with Thames Television in London even winning a Queens Award for Export in the early 1980s but the sales began to flourish in the late 1990s.This was when the chaos really manifested itself. Transmission styles were changing as digital took hold with server based operation and computer controlled playout becoming a reality rather than pure technical theory. Companies found themselves with a library on one system, sales on another, transmission on a different system and finance functioning completely independently from everything else.
