Trouble free automation

AZ Media is a leading supplier of production, post and services in Germany. We provide ENG crews, studios and post production for our clients. We also design and install systems and provide creative and technical training. Our clients include the leading broadcasters in Germany and the rest of northern Europe. At the end of 2003 the RTL group asked us to build a new facility which would provide breakout content for five regional services of RTL Nord, mainly news and magazine programmes, broadcast live each morning and evening. It was not practical for RTL to transmit these services from its own control centre in Cologne. To meet this contract we designed and built a new facility in Hamburg. The commercial pressure was to make this production and playout operation highly automated, but also extremely reliable. We chose the Pinnacle Vortex system to provide integrated ingest, editing and playout. Pebble Beach had already supplied the automation component in a large number of Vortex installations, and it proved to be the appropriate partner for us, too.
