Sat-radio's complex European journey

Six months ago we looked at the prospects for satellite-delivered pay-radio over Europe, and while any week in the broadcasting sectorrnthrows up its fair share of surprises, it is amazing what 6 months can do in radio's compressed space.rnIn our last examination we looked at the various players in the European radio satellite space, and each has suffered a few challenges. Currently there are three main contenders: WorldSpace, which already has a rudimentary service on air; Ondas Media which is assembling cash as rapidly as it can; and EuropaMax, a would-be player generally considered to be behind the other two in its plans. Inmarsat, ICO and Terrestar are also potentially interested parties in this space, while SES Astra and Eutelsat have their j-v looking at TV-to-mobile.
