Portuguese-speaking Angola, Africa's second largest oil producing nation, has flourished since the bitter civil war ended, with considerable foreign investment pouring in to aid the rebuilding. The first private television channel in the country, TV Zimbo, was recently launched in the Angolan capital, Luanda. This marked an end to the state monopoly on broadcast media. Owned by local group Medianova, TV Zimbo will compete for viewers and a share of the growing advertising market against state-owned channels TPA1 and TPA2.
