Glasses or no glasses?

We all know what it's like, heading off to the cinema to catch the latest blockbuster in 3D. On the way to the theatre, you buy your popcorn and drink and pick up a flimsy pair of 3D glasses, which most probably rub your nose and if you wear glasses push them further into your face. They generally work well though and you put up with it, as it's all part of the experience. For kids its even more problematic, as most children are likely to pull a pair of badly fitting glasses straight off, so imagine trying to get them to keep them on for an entire film! However, it doesn't have to be that way, it is possible to get well designed, comfortable 3D glasses. As for 3DTV, until recently the only available sets have been active 3DTV sets, which sync to the glasses. This means that not only are the glasses expensive, being laden with tons of high-end technology and needing a power source, they are also extremely bulky, heavy and far from comfortable. They are definitely not stylish and not designed with glasses-wearers in mind, so most people couldn't envisage wearing them for a prolonged period of time. Therefore, with 3D packages expensive -reguiring a 3DTV and often a subscription to 3D content, or perhaps a 3D blu-ray player, not to mention the glasses - why would you invest if you cannot see yourself wearing the glasses long enough to make it worth that investment?
