Diageo has secured a controlling stake in the Zacapa rum brand from Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala. The drinks giant, which lined up a three-year global distribution and joint marketing deal for Zacapa in 2008, will take a 50% stake representing a controlling interest in the brand. The purchase, for an undisclosed amount, has been confirmed by Diageo, which noted that it is 'subject to the usual closing conditions'.
