GMR Bets Big On Airports

Bangalore based infrastructure development enterprise, GMR Group, which led the consortium that built the third terminal of the Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi, has said that its consortium with Malaysian Airports Holdings has won a bid to build, operate, modernise and expand the Male International Airport in Maldives. As envisaged now, the GMR led consortium would operate the airport for 25 years. This is the second airport contract that GMR led consortium has won in Maldives. GMR led consortium bagged the Male International airport order against competition from France's Aeroport De Paris, Turkey's TAV consortium and Zurich Airport-GVK consortium. The Maldivian success has spurred GMR to eye more airports projects in SAARC (South Asia Regional Cooperation) countries.
