Pratt & Whitney had virtually cornered the market for engines for single-aisle aircraft with their all-conquering JT8D. Their glory seemed to have ended when that engine finally went out of production. Currently, the Pratt & Whitney's engine in that category is the V2500, for which the company is a joint partner.
