When did patent licensing become such a dirty phrase? The actions of so called patent trolls and the unseemly scramble by companies to arm themselves with patents as merely defensive armour has sullied this once considered best practice in corporate America. In this issue of IPM, a number of leading lights from the patent world issue a rallying call to the patent industry, urging them to reclaim their image and refocus on what patents were first developed for: to promote innovation.
