YAHOO SUES FACEBOOK FOR INFRINGING 10 PATENTS

Yahoo Inc. sued Facebook Inc. over 10 patents that include methods and systems for advertising on the Web, opening the first major legal battle among big technology companies in social media. See Yahoo Inc. v. Facebook Inc., No. 12-CV-01212, complaint filed (N.D. Cal., San Jose Div. Mar. 12, 2012). The lawsuit, filed in a San Jose, Calif., federal court March 12, marks a major escalation of patent litigation that has already swept up the smartphone and tablet squeeze value from it via licensing deals and none by a large tech company such as Yahoo.
