DRESS DESIGNER SAYS RIVAL STEALS DESIGNS, CONFUSES CUSTOMERS

A designer of formal gowns has filed a copyright infringement suit alleging that a rival company has stolen her designs and is passing them off as its own. See Hill et al. v. Merle Dress Inc. et al., No. 13-8212, complaint filed (S.D.N.Y. Nov. 10, 2013). Sherri Hill and her eponymous company leveled the claims of willful infringement against Merle Dress Inc. in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Donnie Terry, identified in the complaint as "an individual who calls himself the 'CEO' of Merle Dress Inc.," did not respond to a request for comment regarding Hill's allegations.
