Russia-Focused Funds Give Foreigners A Channel to Local Equity Markets

For many foreign investors, one of the best ways to participate in the Russian market is through a mutual fund that focuses on the country, often from a foreign base of operations. One of the pioneers of Russian fund management—and one of the most successful—is John T. Connor, Jr., who has run the Third Millennium Russia Fund since it was founded in 1998. The $126 million Third Millennium was up 36 percent in 2006, and has averaged an annual compound growth rate of 40 percent over the past five years. It is ranked fifth in performance among all US international funds.
