Syria's civil war shows no sign of ending, the Islamic fundamentalist group ISIS continues to sow terror across the Middle East and beyond, tensions are rising between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and oil prices keep on plummeting, touching a 12-year low. That political and military backdrop creates challenging conditions, to say the least, for investment. Yet the region's asset managers are a hardy bunch, noting that the region has never been a haven of stability. "Overthe decades, any investor has seentheMideast with more volatility, and conflicts spring up from time to time," says Zak Hydari, CEO of Rasmala, a London-based investment managerthat focuses on the Middle East. "But we continue to hold a long-term view and expect to continue investing through the crisis, looking at opportunities when they arise."
