On 31 March 2009 I thought I was retiring - after thirty years in RWE npovver and 37 years in The British Institute of NDT. my wife had arranged a party and booked a week's holiday in Nice! Not so. What my wife didn't realise was: once an NDT Engineer, always an NDT Engineer; you can't let it go, you have to stay involved, well that is the case for me anyway. It all started during the NDT World Conference in Shanghai, when myself and an Institute colleague concluded that the way to manage the many BINDT activities that I was still involved in, such as moving to larger premises and developing a closer working relationship with the Institute of Corrosion, was for me to join the Institute as a member of staff; the idea started as a joke but soon became reality.
