So, the year incorporating the Institute's 50th Anniversary of its NDT Conference has come to a close. The events of the past year have allowed the Institute to consolidate its position, not only in the UK as a highly-respected professional engineering society, but also within the European Federation and the International Committee for NDT. Together with Institute staff, I have represented the Institute at the major NDT events of the year and contributed to a wide variety of initiatives in our industry. The Institute's Council has developed an exciting strategy for the future and, with a change to our Articles of Association and the administration of our business, we are ready to go forward into 2012 as a strong unit of volunteers and staff. We have a lot to look forward to. I welcome our new CEO, Cameron Sinclair, to the team and wish the outgoing holder of the office for 19 years, Matt Gallagher, all the best as he begins the process of retirement. Matt has guided the Institute through many changes and we wish him well. The Institute is also losing the services of Roger Lyon, whose contribution to the Institute as a volunteer, a President and a member of staff over a long period is recognised by all who know him. I am pleased to mention that he does continue as a Council member. 2012 will see the World Conference on NDT take place in Durban, South Africa. The exhibition space sold out months ago and I am looking forward to taking my first steps onto the African continent.
