U.S. Joint Forces Command is creating a program to hone small military unit skills that will be increasingly necessary to succeed in operations and save soldiers' lives, according to the general spearheading the effort.rnThe concept was hatched in March and was followed by several small forums, including a conference at the end of April attended by 120 members from across the services, government and academia, Maj. Gen. Jason Kamiya, head of JFCOM's Joint Warfighting Center, told reporters last week.rnThe group issued a final report from the event, whittling down 400 ideas about small units to four priority groups it will quickly pursue, some in the first year of operation, Kamiya noted.rnThe new JFCOM effort is motivated by "a very, very strong moral obligation" based on historical data showing the "large preponderance of casualties occurring in conflicts past and present have been casualties incurred by smallrnunits, small primarily infantry units," he stated. If executed correctly, the program can add great value and save lives, he added.
