Gen. Allvin: Low Literacy Still A Problem For Afghan Air Force

One of the biggest shortcomings to becoming an effective fighting unit facing the Afghan air force is low literacy and English language capability, according to a senior service official. According to Brig. Gen. David Allvin, commander of NATO Air Training Command, English language competency is an issue for the Afghan air force (AAF). English is a requirement for all pilots and essential for many maintenance positions as well, he said.
