DOD IG Finds No Fault In Acquisition Practices Of Spacecraft And Systems

An investigation by the Defense Department Inspector General found that there were no significant gaps or weaknesses in acquisition policies and procedures for necessary systems engineering, design, quality and safety, also known as mission assurance, dealing with spacecraft and strategic systems. The Sept. 17 report found that three common program management practices across the Missile Defense Agency, the Space and Missile Systems Center and the Strategic Systems should be considered standard practices. The practices include the development of specific policies and standards, verifying program requirements through in-depth quality assurance audits and using independent organizations that report directly to the agency head.
