摘要

The Air Force is contemplating how to harden its planned new, $185 billion portfolio of strategic weapon systems --including the B-21 bomber as well as intercontinental ballistic and nuclear-tipped cruise missiles -- against modern, digital threats not accounted for in current policy and guidance and largely non-existent when the service last recapitalized its nuclear fleet. On Oct. 27, Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James directed the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board to conduct a fiscal year 2017 study focused on nuclear surety and certification for programs now in the acquisition pipeline estimated to cost $185 billion to develop and procure.
