The Pentagon is planning to release a new instruction laying out details for how acquisition officials should report suspect counterfeit parts into a government and industry database. In a Feb. 2 response to a draft GAO report, David Berteau, the assistant secretary of defense for logistics and materiel readiness, said the Defense Department intends to put together a new DOD instruction covering the use of the Government-Industry Data Exchange Program, with the aim to develop, coordinate and issue it by the end of the second quarter of fiscal year 2017.
