The CFTC on May 18 proposed to relax a controversial positionnlimits rule it approved in October. Under the revised proposal,nthe CFTC will require certain firms to count the positions of annaffiliate against the overall limits if it owns more than 50% ofnthe affiliate. According to the final position limits rule commissionersnapproved in a partisan 3-2 vote in October, positionsnheld by affiliates in which a company holds a 10% stake wouldnhave counted toward the larger company’s overall position. Ifnthe ownership exceeds 50%, the firm and its affiliate will neednto aggregate positions.
