Electrical Conductivity of Calcium Nitride

Single-phase α-Ca_3N_2 is synthesized by solid-state reaction and its conductivity is measured between 873 and 1573 K. The composition f the gaseous environment is found to have a strong effect on the conductivity of calcium nitride. Doping of Ca_3N_2 with lanthanum nitride reduces the total conductivity and increases the ionic transference number as a result of the decrease in electronic conductivity.
