On the Occasion of the Seventy-Fifth Birthday of Academician V. V. Osiko

Vyacheslav Vasil'evich Osiko, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), prominent scientist in the fields of physical chemistry and materials research, head of the Laser Materials and Technologies Research Center, Prokhorov General Physics Institute, RAS, was 75 years old on March 28, 2007. Osiko was born in Leningrad and survived the Leningrad Blockade. After the war, his family moved to Moscow. In 1954 Osiko graduated from the Faculty of Physicochemical Engineering of the Mendeleev Institute of Chemical Technology and started his career at the Lebedev Institute of Physics, RAS (FIAN). Between 1955 and 1960, under the supervision of M.A. Konstantinova-Shlezinger he participated in research on the preparation and characterization of inorganic phosphors. In 1960, he received candidate's degree.
