At Health Ingredients Europe (HiE)held in December 2014 in Amsterdam, • Cargill exhibited prototypes made using the ViaTech™ line of stevia-based sweeteners which enables beverage and food manufacturers to achieve optimal sweetness and significant sugar and calorie reduction. Since stevia was approved for use in the EU in 2011 the market has expanded hugely, with a 34%* rise in food and beverage product launches featuring stevia in the last year alone. However, despite some very good product executions using our RA 50, RA80 and RA 95 Truvia~® range, more broadly there have been some issues with taste, particularly at high usage levels, which has held back the successful use of stevia to achieve substantial calorie and sugar reduction. In response to these issues Cargill has developed its ViaTech™ line of stevia-based sweeteners.
