AOGS to Convene Largest Ever Geoscienees Conference in Singapore

Asia Oceania Geoscienees Society was established in 2003 as an international society to promote geophysical science for the benefit of humanity in Asia and Oceania. Though smaller and younger than the well established American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the European Geoscienees Union (EGU), AOGS is growing rapidly. AOGS represents a region exposed to a multitude of earth science challenges associated with growing population, environmental transformation, the impact of'natural' hazards and the threats of climate change. But equally it is a region with great diversity and many opportunities for scientific discovery. Starting in Singapore in 2004, AOGS has organized annual meetings reaching out to geoscientists from the region and beyond. Next year the most ambitious and largest geoscienees gathering ever in Singapore will take place. This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between AOGS and the American Geophysical Union to hold a joint assembly between AOGS and the Western Pacific Geophysics Meeting of AGU. The Joint Assembly will take place on 13-17 August 2012 and is expected to attract up to 3000 geoscientists from around the world.
