Adult Mental Health Assessment

In the UK, one in six adults has a neurotic disorder (such as anxiety and depression); while one in seven has considered suicide at some point in their lives. One in 200 has a psychotic disorder such as psychosis and schizophrenia. More people are currently not working because of mental health problems than any other issue. The role of the GP in their care is crucial as 90% are cared for entirely in primary care. About 30% of GP consultations have a mental health component and GPs have a role in detection, treatment, referral and ongoing community support of people with mental health disorders.
